Stranded from purified beef or sheep intestines.  Each strand keeps the uniform diameter & smooth surface which impedes friction in the tissue.   Chromicized to provide longer tensile strength than catgut plain.

Catgut Chromic has been tanned by treatment with chromium salts in trivalent form with oxidized pyrogallic acid to prolong its resistance to absorption.
